Forever Onward…
On August 8, 1990, I founded Day O Productions in Los Angeles. It certainly was one of the most exciting and challenging times of my life. But the timing for the new company was not good at all. We had The Gulf War in 1991, LA Riot in 1992 and Northridge Earthquake in 1994. We didn’t get any jobs. So I had to make the difficult decision to go back to Awaji Island to try to learn how to become a noodle maker. I think it was a really tough time for me. While I was in Awaji Island, I received a phone call from an old friend of mine who also returned from Los Angeles to Tokyo. I believe this took place around the end of 1993. Avex, which, at the time I did not know anything about, was looking for somebody who can help produce a music video called "Boy Meets Girl" by the new group called, TRF in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. So, with some excitement and anxiety, I took a flight out to Mexico to location scout for the video. "Boy Meets Girl" was shot as Day O's first music video in 1994. This one phone call became Day O's tipping point.
I have been so grateful to those who have worked with Day O over the years. Today, I want to share some of the great work that Day O was a part of, many of which influenced the younger generation of Japan. And much, much later on in my life, I received heartwarming compliments from them.
So, why not walk down memory lane with us and bring back all those flaming dreams and ambitions you once had, and say to ourselves, "Forever Onward."

1990年8月8日、私はロサンゼルスでDay O Productionsを設立しました。
それは確かに私の人生で最もエキサイティングで挑戦的な事でした。
しかし、新会社の設立したタイミングは全然良くありませんでした。 1991年に湾岸戦争、1992年にロサンゼルス暴動、1994年にノースリッジ地震が起こりました。したがって仕事はありませんでした。ですから、淡路島に戻ってうどん職人になる方法を勉強しようかという難しい決断をしなければなりませんでした。本当に大変な時だったと思います。そして淡路島に戻っている間に、ロサンゼルスから東京に戻ってきた旧友から電話がありました。これは確か、1993年の終わり頃だったと思います。当時私は何もエイベックスさんの事は存じ上げなかったのですが、メキシコのカボ・サンルーカスでTRFというグループの「Boy Meets Girl」というミュージックビデオの制作を手伝ってくれる人を探しているという事でした。 私は興奮と不安を抱えて、ミュージックビデオのロケハンのためにメキシコに飛行機で向かいました。 「Boy Meets Girl」は、1994年にDay Oの最初のミュージックビデオとして撮影されました。この1回の電話がDay Oの転換点になったと思います。
何年にもわたってDay Oにお仕事を下さったクライアント、そして働いてくれた多くの人々にとても感謝しています。今日は、Day Oが参加した素晴らしい作品のいくつかを共有したいと思います。その多くは日本の若い世代に影響を与えられたらと思います。そして、ずっと後の最近ですが、私は90年代にこの世に存在していない、若い世代から心温まる言葉を受け取りました。深謝です。
なので、私たちと一緒に思い出の小道を歩いて、我々がかつて持っていた燃えるような夢と野心を取り戻し、「永遠に」と自分に言い聞かせてみたいと勝手に思いました（笑）。
